What are the Electric Scissor Lifts?
Electric scissor lifts are a modern type of scissor lift powered by electricity, and equipped with a rechargeable battery that can run for longer hours. Electric scissor lifts are currently popular in the market. Many industries are demanding an electric scissor lift because they are quite popular for being advantageous in indoor work. They have at their disposal an alternative machine that can operate without any use of burning fuel. A well-known advantage of an electric scissor lift is that it can work silently and sustainably.
A scissor lift is also a type of aerial working platform but differs from the rest. This is because scissor lifts can lift multiple workers, while other platforms can only raise two people at most. An average scissor lift could elevate at least 20 feet or 6 meters above the ground.
Scissor lifts are acknowledged for bringing safety in their works due to their wide platform, steadiness, smoothness, and robustness. Since they became reliable in elevated works, they have been in a series of innovations to create the best version possible. Years spent in improving technologies had scissor lifts benefit from these, resulting in the creation of electric scissor lifts.
Heavy construction equipment
Heavy construction equipment, such as cranes, excavators, and forklifts, are indeed providers of more straightforward and quicker work as they are proven to be reliable and efficient in many applications. It is hard to imagine a construction world without them; otherwise, every infrastructure will be done manually, taking a lot of time and resources. Construction equipment varies according to its function on projects. Cranes and forklifts are examples of handling equipment because they are used to carry or lift materials. On the other hand, excavators, backhoe loaders, and cylinder compactors are earth-moving equipment because their works are mostly digging or pavement of soils and asphalt.
However, there is machinery that is considered essential when it comes to aerial works. They are termed “aerial working platforms” the only equipment that can lift workers and tools above the ground. Aerial working platforms are often employed in minor jobs, but they are also the equipment quite known for busy working.
This blog will discuss anything related to an electric scissor lift, a type of scissor lift powered by electricity. We will guarantee a thoughtful reading from its basic definition and applications to even comparing them to other scissor lift types.
Even though electric scissor lifts are adaptive and can work in other environments, they are recommended for indoor operations where they would perform better. While using them in rough terrain may cause damage to its interior because they are built for flat spaces only, extreme safety measures should be conducted before the operation.
Sustainable solution: Without a need for fuel to run, it provides a greener and cleaner solution using electricity.
Silent operator: electric scissor lifts do not emit fumes or noise, providing a quiet operation for indoor space, especially when ventilation is a concern.
Applications of an electric scissor lift
The rise of electric scissor lifts in the market has made several companies invest in a large number of electric machinery, affecting many small industries and commercials distressed. They have left no choice but to rent electric scissor lifts if needed to work efficiently and precisely when at heights. Nonetheless, renting scissor lifts is also a subtle option for many because they still provide the best and optimal working performance indoors and light works.
Today, countless industries are accountable for making rental equipment a trend as they rely on it frequently for their work, especially in construction, hangars, and logistics. All of this proves that scissor lifts are undeniably essential when working from basic to extensive tasks.
After discussing how many industries are demanding electric scissor lifts, we can now proceed to where and how electric scissor lifts play significant roles in the field and perform their best. Buying or renting electric scissor lifts is relatively easy; however, it is necessary to learn at least basic knowledge before doing so. At this point, we are going to list the applications where electric scissor lifts become handy and essential.
Scissor Lifts for Indoor and Outdoor Maintenance
Electric scissor lifts are often a replacement for manual equipment like ladders when performing maintenance works at commercial or residential properties. Aside from lifting the person with ease, it is safer to use since it has bars installed around the edges of the platform, ensuring a riskless operation. Tasks like changing electrical fixtures, cleaning/installing windows, and cleaning houses’ gutters are usually done with the assistance of electric scissor lifts.
Electric scissor lifts are also quiet and smooth working. These characteristics signal a ‘green’ flag for electric scissor lifts to work at hospitals, schools, and churches, where they mandate equipment that can work efficiently while not causing noise disruptions. These tasks include changing light bulbs, hanging banners, laying bricks, pouring concrete, and accessing utilities. Additionally, scissor lifts are easy to move from one building area to another while their arms are fully extended. This advantage greatly helps the work get done faster (considering its ample working space for additional workers or equipment).
Overhead Construction Works
Although construction sites seem rugged, uneven and mixed with a rocky and liquefied surface, electric scissor lifts may come in handy in certain areas and tasks. Safe and steady are well-known advantages of scissor lifts where they can provide an efficient platform for construction workers to accomplish tasks precisely at any given elevations.
Several construction agencies admitted that scissor lifts are a ‘huge assistance’ in overhead works, especially when working inside an under-construction building for operations like welding steel, laying bricks, pouring concrete (primarily for foundation works). This is what makes scissor lifts suitable for doing lifting works in many construction projects. Despite their limited working height, they have a hefty load capacity to lift many workers at a given level.
Pallet Lifting in Supermarkets
We’re completely aware that forklifts are the machines assigned for lifting pallets in supermarkets and other logistic tasks. However, in some cases, industries prefer to use electric scissor lifts to lift pallets instead of forklifts because they believe it would be advantageous. Based on the case study conducted by SafeTech, supermarkets frequently require a machine that could lift tenfolds of pallets from the lower floor to the upper floor at a faster rate. Although forklifts seem appropriate to get the job done, they have a small weight limit. Smaller weight limit means cannot meet the required number of pallets lifted under a given time. On the bright side, a scissor lift would do fine since it is capable of lifting thousands of kilograms of loads in less than an hour. Lastly, its wide platform dimension allows the workers to ride within the platform to help the market’s productivity.
Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is a method of increasing the wall’s adhesion to prepare it for coating a new layer by removing rusts and degraded coating on its surface. Usually, large industries and manufacturers are the one’s that require surface preparation because they have industrial tanks measuring 10 meters tall. Electric scissor lifts are often used to perform this method since they have the reach advantage and can carry tools necessary for surface preparation.
Scissor Lifts for Retail and Warehousing
Inside a warehouse, every space possible for storage is utilized economically. Even the space up to the roof is used, which is why we can see pallets being stacked because it saves a lot of space. Forklift and electric scissor lifts are mainly used for this setting. They can be used for storing goods on elevated shelves and platforms. Their smooth working indoors is not only the advantage seen by owners, yet their sizes also attract many because being minute machines can save space when storing them. Moreover, warehouses often require general maintenance and repairs, where scissor lifts come in handy when needed.
Scissor Lifts for Inspection Activities for Small Aircraft
Scissor lifts are generally limited to vertical reach but sufficient for inspecting a plane’s engine during an inspection in hangars. Radar, wings, flaps, and landing gears are also examined, and using scissor lifts can finish the job quickly. However, inspecting the whole aircraft is another story because different types of aerial platforms are required. A truck-mounted boom lift is best to use for the job.
Installing Overhead Signs with Scissor Lifts
Overhead signs need to be placed as much as possible at the highest so that people can easily see them. The major clients are the owners of grocery stores, hardware, or malls that frequently rent electric scissor lifts to install overhead signs. Since scissor lifts are known for their wide platform dimension, it is ideal for this job because they can lift two workers, tools, and signages.
What we offer
Our service was present in many developmental projects in Constanta, where we provide clients with trustworthy rental equipment. We always ensure our team applies maximum effort and full reliability to bring an exceptional outcome to their projects.
Kran started as a small rental agency a few years ago. Just like most scenarios for starter rental services, we can only handle minimum work at a time. Our equipment and the team are not enough to accommodate many requests during those periods. So, we have decided to invest our budget from the projects to expand our fleet.
Expanding the fleet means increasing the available equipment for our service. This year, we have purchased many latest additions to our fleets, such as new truck cranes and truck-mounted boom lifts for rent. With this, our range of area provided and the number of operations that can be handled also increases. However, we also saw high demand for aerial working platforms — machines used for lifting multiple workers and tools safely while working at elevations. So we bought an additional scissor lift, the Haulotte Compact 12.
Being famous for bringing exceptional productivity, mobile at full working height, robust, reliable, and most importantly, double the time better than the average scissor lift, we made the right choice to serve clients better at heights.

Haulotte Compact 12 vs. Snorkel S1930
When we talk about different construction equipment rental, comparison between machines makes it easier to identify what makes one better than the other. This is mainly done to give clients valid options on what equipment will suit their requirements (such as allocated budget, amount of productivity, and quality needed) for better work.
Comparing our equipment for rent would be complex as we need to present how one machine is better without downgrading another. This section will feature the newly added electric scissor lift, the Haulotte Compact 12, and our reliable Snorkel S1930 electric scissor lift by comparing them according to their technical specification. We will also consider the Snorkel S1930 as an average scissor lift based on its technical datasheet. It would help us settle the discussion better.
Load Capacity of scissor lifts
In scissor lifts, the load capacity is the maximum force allowed to be applied to a platform in a specified direction (Serge et al.). This force is determined by the mass of the object placed on the platform (both workers and tools), the Earth’s gravity, and the speed of the scissor lift if it is intended to work while moving.
When a scissor lift has a higher load capacity, this means it can elevate heavier objects. It also indicates that the machine is more robust if it has a higher load capacity, yet it would be slower since more mechanism and steel components are required; thus, slowing down the process. For scissor lifts, the average load capacity is 300kg.
If we would compare Compact 12 to the Snorkel S1930, it has a better lifting capacity of about 450 kg. While the Snorkel, which has only 227 kg, is excellent for doing light work. However, it can only lift a single worker, but the scissor lift is expected to work quicker. On the other hand, the Compact 12 can lift at least two people overhead, bring heavy tools weighing 300 kgs without worrying about the sturdiness of the machine.
Lifting Height
The lifting height of the aerial working platforms (AWPs) refers to the maximum vertical reach allowable for operation. Typically in scissor lifts, the maximum lifting height ranges from 9-12 meters. Scissor lifts have a shorter lifting height compared to other aerial working platforms for rent. Their design lets them lift a higher volume of materials and workers at once by lowering their lift height to ensure safety.
If you are looking for aerial working platforms that can reach a greater height, consider renting a truck-mounted boom lift that can offer a working height of up to 57 meters.
Going back to our electric scissor lifts, Snorkel has a lifting height of 6 meters only. This height is suitable for warehousing, supermarket, or delivery bay works requiring only a few meters elevation. However, Compact 12 has a lifting height of 12 meters. This makes them reliable in working with higher elevations, such as posting signages, inspecting small aircraft, or installing windows.
Platform dimension
The platform dimension is defined as the overall usable space in the scissor lifts. This is the part of the machine where workers and tools are situated during operations. In most cases, scissor lifts have the widest platform among all aerial working platforms. If the scissor lift has enough space for workers, this would probably boost their working confidence and productivity, knowing they can perform tasks freely at heights.
Comparing our electric scissor lifts in terms of platform dimension, the Compact 12 is the widest since its dimension is 1.20 x 2.31 meters, to be exact. With this size, it is capable of carrying two to three workers along with their handy equipment. In contrast, Kran’s Snorkel has a platform dimension of 0.74 x 1.62 meters. Although it seems sleek in size, it has many useful applications. It can work on tasks in narrow spaces by carrying only one worker and being lightweight means a faster working pace.
These three components of electric scissor lifts are important to understand when choosing the right equipment for your work. If you planned to work extensively and needed a robust scissor lift, rent a Compact 12. But, if your project requires only short-term operations, rent a Snorkel S1930.
Kran will always provide you with the best option for your convenience.
